Brown Sugar is a subsidiary of the Afrodesiac Worldwide brand, spearheaded by Creative Director Chiedza Makonnen. In contrast to Afrodesiac’s global brand, Brown Sugar is a Brooklynesque lifestyle boutique that provides eclectic curated selection of apparel, accessories and more; and often showcases emerging designers. On one of her frequent layovers in New York, Chiedza asked if I’d be willing to shoot some recent apparel purchases in a way that captured a New York/Brooklyn vibe to promote a pop-up showing. After our success with the Africa Rocks Collections I couldn’t turn this down.
